Sheffield B 5 vs Calderdale A 3

I wasn’t there – you’ll have to rely on Dave’s report for this one!

Report by Andrew Hards

The worst team performance of the season saw us crash 5 to 3 against an enthusiastic Sheffield B team. We were all locked out of venue before match, unfortunatley they let us in! Well played Sheffield, I guess just one of those days we don’t have that many to be honest. Think team is ready for the end of season.

Report by Dave Patrick

Sheffield B 5 – 3 Calderdale A
Peter Ackley 1 – 0 Phil Watson
Peong Wei Jie 0 – 1 Peter Mulleady
John Fletcher ½ – ½ Martyn Hamer
Tom Wills 1 – 0 Rob Newton

Stuart Crosthwaite 0 – 1 Tim Hilton
Elliott Spencer 1 – 0 Dave Patrick

Alwoodley A 1 vs York RI A 7

So onwards with the efforts to hunt large game point hauls.

Things started well with a genuinely quick win for me, and Dave winning reasonably quickly too. Our other two white games also went well, although the wins took longer to complete.

The wins with black were much harder earned – Paul and James had to work very hard and only won after the time control.

Finally both Jim Vickery – perhaps unsurprisingly – and more credibly Paul May were well worth their draws on boards 4 and 6.

Sheffield matched our efforts against Harrogate so the final match promises to be nerve wracking.

I was absent today but my team pulled out another fine performance to beat Calderdale A… 4 wins and a draw from 5 makes much better reading than the 2 draws and 3 defeats at the start of the season. 5th looks like a solid bet now which would be a great performance.

An exciting end to the season.
York C did well with a good team spirit and despite many believing they would be relegated easily’.
Unfortunately there are few signs of many juniors playing except Alwoodley B

Scary finish due for us and Sheffield in three weeks. Sheffield need 1 game point more than us but an mildly easier match so it’s anyone’s guess.

Cheers for that Andy – I did realise but by then had clicked the Send button. Sorry Rich!
