Alwoodley A 1½ vs Calderdale A 6½

Calderdale produced a good team performance against Alwoodley A with no losers. I feel we should now be safe with 8 points and can now look up rather than down a Europa league place possibly (top 6). Well done to our B team who won 8 nil apparently a 14.5 to 1.5 result for team Calderdale well done boys.

York RI A 6½ vs Leeds CCCC A 1½

Well, the quest to keep up the game point pace with Sheffield was afoot. Not that this very strong York team was a result of that – Leeds’s top strength team is very strong so I’d been trying to ensure we had a very good team from the start of the season.

As it happens Jean Luc was back in York and available, so our team was exceedingly strong. This could still have been a very tough match but Leeds were notably weakened by the Universities chess, so we were always likely to win.

The eventual 6.5 win was somewhat flattering in many ways, with some good wins but some rank pulling too. Many of the games went very deep and Gavyn was especially lucky to survive on board 7.

I guess we’ll still be on top of the league for at least one more match :)

York A lose if there’s an ultimate tie, so we’re ahead by the ‘giant’ margin of 0.5 of a game point……

Suspect we may slip slightly behind after the next round, slightly ahead after the one after that but very likely mega stress in the final match.

Relegation looks awfully tough to call too.

Seeing the team currently in the third in the IMB losing 7.5 – 0.5 to York B does rather highlight the gulf in quality there.

I’m expecting you to buy us a drink for every half point we score in our next match ;-)
