The 2nd round of Division 3 of the Four Nations Chess League (4NCL) took place in Crewe last weekend. Yorkshire was represented by three teams from Bradford and one from York (Jorvik).

On Saturday, promotion rivals Bradford A and 3Cs 2 squared off. In a cagey encounter the first four games were drawn in tame fashion but the remaining two games saw uncharacteristic blunders by both sides leading to a 3-3 draw which both sides were satisfied with. Bradford A’s Sunday fixture against Cheddleton 2 was more fruitful. A quick win by Dave Barlow (see puzzle) set Bradford on their way to a key 4-2 victory.

Bradford B won the first of their two matches, while Bradford C and Jorvik did not pick up any points. The next two rounds take place in Wakefield.
