The Scarborough Congress has established itself as the biggest weekend congress in the country. Taking place in the newly refurbished Ocean Room at Scarborough Spa, it attracted 331 players across five sections of all abilities.

Defending co-champion David Walker once again won the Open section with 4.5/5, winning a crucial game against Francis Rayner in the final round, who was on 4/4. Walker shared the title with Sixten Thestrup, who won a fine technical endgame with the pressure at its highest. Today’s puzzle comes from Round 2 of the Open.

There was plenty of Yorkshire success in the lower sections. AJ Slinger (York) jointly won the Major and Ian Thackray (Leeds) shared 1st place in the Minor, both winning over £300.
